10 Books I’ve Recently Added to my To-Read List

There’s a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish called “Top Ten Tuesday.” Today I’ll be participating by sharing ten books I’ve recently added to my TBR (or, to-be-read list). I will take this opportunity to say that I’m very territorial about my TBR, and I’m not going to put something on there unless I am absolutely going to read it. The more books I have on the TBR, the more stressed I am about getting them all read. I get so stressed about the size of that list that I’m currently on a “TBR” ban, meaning I can’t add anything to that list unless I take something off (yes, I live a sad life). The 10 books I’ve chosen today have all been added over the past three months. Have you read any of them?

1. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Good news! I’ll be reading this one soon(ish) for a book club! Fellow blogger Nicola is also a part of this book club, so I’ll have a buddy to read it with (yay!).

2. A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers

After deciding that The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet was one of my favorite books of 2016, I knew that I had to read the next one. I am SO excited for it to come out in paperback (I believe it’s currently out in a e-book form only right now?).

3. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

No real explanation needed. I enjoyed the first one, so I must read the next (everyone says this one is better, anyway).

4. Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab

This Savage Song (the first in the series) was fantastic! I can’t wait for the next one.

5. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

I haven’t read a single book by Michael Crichton. Pathetic, right? I decided that this one should be my first.

6. Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews

It’s creepy and some good friends have recommended it to me, because I love horror. What more could I ask for when picking up a book?

7. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

It’s wildly popular, so many of my blogging friends recommend it, and they’re making it into a movie. That’s a recipe to get me to read it ASAP.

8. Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin

My understanding about this book is that it’s an alternate reality situation: what if the Axis powers of WWII had won? People rave about this book, and the sequel just came out, so who could ask for better timing?

9. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn

A story about a carny family?! YES, YES, AND MORE YES. Even better? The pregnant women poison themselves to create freak-show-quality children. I LOVE this level of creepy. Audible.com just had a 2-for-1 sale that included this book, so I’ll be listening this one soon!

10. The Bronze Horsemen by Paullina Simons

I have heard crazy good things about this epic love story. One blogger said she read it and it became her favorite book of all-time. All I know is that it’s about Russians in WWII. This was the other audiobook I bought with Audible.com’s 2-for-1 sale I mentioned above. I didn’t realize it was 30 HOURS LONG. This will probably take me an entire month to listen to (…if not more).

  1. Two words: JURASSIC PARK. It’s such a terrifying, suspenseful, fun read!!
I’ve had Nevernight on my TBR ever since I fell in love with Illuminae, but I just haven’t gotten around to reading it. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick it up soon!
    Great list 🙂

  2. this is an epic TBR. i just finished nevernight and it was brilliant. i really enjoyed it but i can see how some people are turned off. dark matter will take you two days max. read it sooooo goood. jurassic park is great, but the movie is better (what?!) and ACOMAF?!?!??! read dat.

    1. LOL. You’ve convinced me! I’m going to put them all on my TBR— oh, wait…
On a totally unrelated note – your secret santa thing is amazing! So well done! I’m super excited about it!!

  3. I AM DYING TO GET MY HANDS ON OUR DARK DUET! I NEEEEEED IT! *fangirl mode off* Really good choices! I hope you’ll enjoy Wolf by Wolf, I loved it! And ACOMAF was better in my opinion, but a lot of people don’t think so. It really depends on whether you can get over a certain thing happening or not, but no spoilers!

    1. Hahaha, I feel like so much has been spoiled for me in ACOMAF already! I’m really excited to get to Wolf by Wolf. It seems like such a cool story.

  4. I have most of these in my TBR too!! Well flowers in the attic is still there, because although I know all about the story I started the book when I apparently wasn’t in the mood so I didn’t finish it and left it for now…
I don’t know if I’ll ever read Jurassic Park, I love the movie, I enjoyed it too much and I don’t see if I can do that in book format, with all these different dinosaurs…hehehe

    1. Hahaha, fair enough! I’ve heard that all of Crichton’s books are stinking awesome so if I like JP, I think it’s going to open up a huge new area of books I need to read! That intimidates me a little bit!

      1. Yes, you wont be adding a book to your TBR but 27!!! I just checked his bibliography, that’s a lot!! I didn’t know Westworld was his own creation either! Maybe he really is worth a check! 😉

  5. I want to read Wolf by Wolf so bad! Everyone raves about this book and it would be my first alternative-history novel, so I’m even more excited!
I’ve never read anything by Michael Crichton either, but I’m very intrigued about another one of his books: Rising Sun. I watched the movie for school once and I was very impressed! It is a great mystery story.

    1. Yes! It would be my first “alternate history” book, too! Especially since the finale is out now, it’d be a safe book to read (we wouldn’t have to wait MONTHS for the next one, yay)! Michael Crichton has a HUGE amount of books he’s written. People love him!

  6. I recently added Dark Matter and Wolf by Wolf to my TBR too. I’ve heard such great things about those two. And I’ve had Nevernight on my TBR for so long but still haven’t read it 🙈. Hopefully we both enjoy all three of them whenever we get around to reading them! Also, I really hope you enjoy ACOMAF. That book is so good!

    1. I KNOW I’m going to love ACMAF and I’m sooooo eager to read it. I have a few books to get through first, but then I get to devour it! YAY!

  7. I’ve been wanting to read Nevernight for a while but it’s not available on my country… I wonder why, even Gemina was sold on its release date 🙁 YES to ACOMAF being so much better than ACOTAR, the character development was champ!! The other day I put a vote on twitter on what books I should buy next, Wolf by Wolf was one of the option and it won unanimously hahaha I ended up purchasing it along with Blood for Blood, can’t wait to read it <3 happy reading and hope you enjoy it! 😀

  8. Ohh this is a great list, and…I haven’t read anything on this hahaha. I did hear awesome things about Nevernight, so I’m thinking about trying this, but maybe I’ll read Illuminae before since I have it already ahah 🙂 I hope you’ll enjoy this book 🙂

  9. OMG I have Dark Matter on hold at the library but I LOVED Pines. I can’t wait to read it! I really enjoyed The Bronze Horseman back when I read it, but I can’t remember much about it atm. I hope you love Nevernight, it’s one of my favs of the year!

  10. If you are hungry for more dinosaur action after reading Jurassic Park and The Lost World, check out The Dinosaur Four. It’s an R-rated B-movie time-travel thriller about ten people trapped in the Cretaceous. Read it for free on Kindle Unlimited, or listen to the audiobook at Audible if you have any spare credits.
