Classics I’ve Recently Added To My TBR

Since I started blogging, I have found so many books that I’ve wanted to read (or need to read in certain cases), my time I would normally devote to classics has been eaten away! I’m slowly whittling down my TBR (to be read list) though. I think I have maybe 9 books left?!? Once that’s done, I’m going to be catching up on some classics! Here are the ones that are up first on my TBR.

1. Dune by Frank Herbert

Considered a classic in the sci-fi realm, it’s the world’s best selling science fiction novel. My husband read it and loved it, so our marriage is currently hinging on my reading this book soon (just kidding, sort of). I tried listening to the audiobook of it, but there were WAY too many new words/names, that I couldn’t understand WTF was going on. Definitely one I need to read first!

2. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

3. Cannery Row by John Steinback

This book takes place in one of my favorite places: the central coast of California, and more specifically, Monterey, CA (one of my favorite cities!). I have to read it!

4. The Once and Future King by T.H. White

Considered a fantasy classic, this book is a story inspired by the Arthurian legends! I have heard a million good things about it.

5. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

There are so many children’s classics I haven’t read yet. I am slowly working my way through them.

6. Heidi by Johanna Spyri

7. Robin Hood by Howard Pyle

8. Le Morte d’ Arthur: King Arthur and the Legends of the Round Table by Thomas Malory

I started reading some of these, and they are seriously hilarious (not intentionally… but they’re so ridiculous that I couldn’t help but LOL). I can’t wait to read all of them!

What are some classics you’ve read lately? Or ones you want to read?

  1. I’ve been trying to convince myself to read more classics, but so far I have not been entirely successful. I really want to read
The Picture of Dorian Gray because I think Oscar Wilde is brilliant. I also recently acquired Jane Austen’s Emma and Sense and Sensibility, To Kill A Mockingbird, and The Wizard of Oz, so I really need to read all those!

    1. Start with the children’s classic! The Wizard of Oz is easy to read and it’s short! Plus, it’s fun (: That will make you feel better about your accomplishment and able to move on to the next one, hahah!

  2. This edition of Robin Hood is gorgeous!!

I need to finish (or start again) Dune! It was super good but for no reason I stopped reading 50% in? Plus the hodderscape edition of the sequel is gorgeous and I need a reason to buy it! hahah!

  3. I read Huckleberry Finn in school, and again in the last 8 years.. it is an enjoyable one 🙂
Dorian Grey has come up for me SO OFTEN in the past month I feel like I *need* to read it soon.
I love classics – my first vet clinic job I worked with a woman who was huge into reading and constantly she was lending me books I *had* to read, most being classics. She got me hooked 🙂 Tess D’Uberville and Madame Bovary were a couple she got me hooked with.
I haven’t read any classics this year as of yet. . . something I plan to remedy soon. “Testament of Youth” is probably the last book I read that even comes close to “classic” – it is 80 years old, after all, and a prominent World War I autobiography. Other than that, I reread Anne of Green Gables fairly often 😉

    1. I have both Tess D’Uberville and Madame Bovary! I should read them! Hahaha Anne of Green Gables totally counts as a classic XD
