I hope all you mothers were adequately celebrated this past weekend! And if you’re not a mom and/or didn’t celebrate with your mom, hope you had a fantastic weekend! Today I’m choosing some of my favorite bookish moms. Chime in and name some of yours!

1. THE QUEEN OF MOMS: Molly Weasley from the Harry Potter Series

2. Mrs. Lancaster in The Fault in Our Stars

the fault in our stars john green

loved loved loved Hazel’s mom in this book. She wasn’t perfect, but that made her all the more wonderful.

3. Ma in Room

room emma donoghue

Another flawed mother, but she did everything she could to get her son out of that situation, and she ultimately succeeded. A really heart-breaking but wonderful mother-son story.

4. Ysabeau de Clermont from The All Souls Trilogy

Ysabeau is one of those bad-ass moms that you want on your side when shit goes down. I LOVED her and her firecracker personality.

5. Ari’s Mom in Aristotle and Dante Discovery the Secrets of the Universe

Another very flawed, yet brave, mother. She loves and accepts her son for what he is, and you can’t ask for a better mom-move.

End note: After writing this post, I have come to realize how few good mothers there are in books. I had a VERY hard time coming up with five! Most moms in novels are either awful or absent. I guess I should’ve done a post about the worst bookish moms. Would’ve been much easier!

Who are some of your favorite (or least favorite) bookish mothers?

This prompt is from “Top Ten Tuesday,” a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
