I’ve had a request for a list of books that are good re-introductions to reading (especially when you’ve had a long break from books for things like school or children or other intense life-things). So here is a list of books I’d recommend for people who are non-readers or people who haven’t read in a long time!
For the sci-fi nerd:
It’s not surprising if you follow my blog that the Red Rising series is my go-to for non-readers who enjoy sci-fi. These books are just that good.
I’m equally obsessed with Ready Player One. I mean, they made it a freaking movie (albeit a bad one). Let the masses speak for themself!
For the fantasy lover:
There are other fantasy books I want to recommend, but I am focusing this on non-readers. I am trying to keep in consideration that they should be easy-to-read and not too long. A Court of Thorns and Roses is a great non-reader fantasy series!
A Discovery of Witches is long, but it is a hugely popular series and is very accessible.
For the romantic:
The Bronze Horseman is a big DUH because this book was my jam. Ghosted is a bit of a different recommendation. It is 100% NOT a romance novel, BUT it is a love story and has a very fast pace once you get into things. It’s definitely one I think would be well-suited for a non-reader who likes love stories.
For the horror junkie:
The Exorcist reads SO MUCH like the movie, so it’s a great option. The Bird Box has great creepy tension and I recommend it to any horror lover.
For the one who wants to keep it classic:
Both The Picture of Dorian Gray and Rebecca read like modern fiction. They’re dramatic, have gasp-worthy endings, and will definitely keep you turning the pages.
What book would you recommend to non-readers?
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.
