I have recently discovered children’s literature (because I didn’t really read much as a child) and keep being surprised by how many amazing stories there are! I’m not really sure if I want to have kids, but I will say the idea of getting to share such great stories with a little one sounds pretty dang fun. So this list is a “if I were to have kids” sort of thing.

1. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

The first children’s classic I read and is still my favorite.

2. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

This story is completely charming! See my review here!

3. The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

Because DUH.

4. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

After reading this one I made my husband read it, and it’s now one of his favorite books of all-time. See my review here.

5. Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery

This book is hilarious, sweet, and warm-hearted. You should absolutely read it if you haven’t yet! See my review here.

6. Matilda by Roald Dahl

Confession: This is the only Roald Dahl book I have ever read. And I just read it for the first time this year. Embarrasing, I know. But I quite enjoyed it, and look forward to reading his other ones, and forcing all his books one day upon my future children. See my review for Matilda here.

7. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Retold by Alvin Schwartz

I was legit obsessed with these as a kid, so naturally, I’m going to force them upon my children as well. They must learn to love Halloween as much as I do!

8. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

A kid may have to be a little older to enjoy this one, but not much! There’s not a ton of gore or cursing in this book, and it’s pure dino fun! I think once my child is above 7-8ish, they’re getting this novel shoved in their sticky-fingered hands. See my review here!

9. Wonder by RJ Palacio

This book is simply lovely.

10. Holes by Louis Sachar

This book was SO GOOD! It was one of the few that I read as a child, and I read it a gazillion times. I was obsessed with it! I’ll make sure my child feels the same… or else.
