Ohhh my gosh do I have so many books that I love to say I read. It’s actually quite obnoxious (especially when you realize a) I hated it, and b) I didn’t understand half of it). I am very excited to share with you all of the books that I’ve read that I WILL NEVER READ AGAIN.
1. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
Because THAT B ANNA was awful AF.
2. Moby Dick by Herman Melville
Psh, yeah that will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. My husband loves this book. I don’t.
3. Middlemarch by George Elliott
I didn’t particularly enjoy this one, but it’s huge and it’s a classic, so I’m glad I read it.
4. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
Okay, I actually enjoyed this one. I don’t know if I’ll ever read it again because it’s EFFING MASSIVE, but it’s really not a hard read. So I guess it’s not that impressive other than its size…
5. Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
Okay, so I recognize it’s not that impressive that I read a children’s novel, BUT I REALLY HATED THIS ONE GUYS. And the fact that I finished it was downright impressive to me.
Books I want to read for bragging rights:
What book are you glad you’ve read for bragging rights?! Now is the time to brag!
This post idea was taken from That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt list!
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.

All great bragging-right books, but I confess I’ve never read “Moby Dick” despite my son and husband loving the book.

Oh. My. God.
How did you manage to get through these for the bragging rights? There’s no way I’d manage it haha.

Hahaha… well truthfully I didn’t read them for the bragging rights, I read them for other, more compelling reasons. But now that they’re done, I’m glad to say that I’ve read them!

Anna Karenina and Gone with the Wind are my bragging rights books. It took me three tries to get through Anna Karenina because, as you said, it is awful! I recommend Gone with the Wind though, it was a surprisingly good book!
Ali
I LOVED Gone with the Wind!! Also massive – I didn’t even think to include that one!
Cate
What a great blog post idea! I may have a few titles like that on my shelf also.
Ali
hahaha yes!!

Moby Dick made my list this week too. It was so awful that I still can’t believe I finished it, lol.

Oh my gosh I am right with you on Peter Pan. It just sucked so much.

Hah, I love this! I feel like most of the classics I’ve read are fairly typical ones that people read in school so I don’t know that I really have anything all that exciting that I can say I read and brag about.

Yes, it was definitely kind of boring for me – I’m assuming it was because I was so familiar with the movie??

Anna Karenina will be the death of me. I have started that book at LEAST 5x and have yet to make it past page 10. HELP.
