I am a stickler when it comes to covers. I get so upset when a good book has a crappy cover. And don’t even get me started on covers that have photographs of people on them. I HATE them, and they almost always become an instant will-not-read for me. Here are some of my favorite covers of the books that I have on my to-read list!
1. The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley
2. The Bedlam Stacks by Natasha Pulley
Yes, I recognize I’m choosing two books from the same author. And they’re sort of sequels. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? They’re different enough that— you know? Why am I explaining myself? This is my blog post and I do what I want.
3. The Graces by Laure Eve
I know this one has gotten some mixed reviews, but a) its cover is gorgeous, and b) it’s about witches so…
4. Retribution Rails by Erin Bowman
5. A Man Called Ove by Frederick Backman
Ladies and gentlemen, this is how you do people on the cover of a book. An illustration, okay? Also, a cat will always improve a cover immensely.
6. Aftercare Instructions by Bonnie Pipkin
7. A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers
BONUS ROUND
Here’s a cover on my TBR that I completely hate. BUT, I’ve heard the book is fantastic, so I’m reading it anyway (le sigh).
The Winter King by C.L. Wilson
Tell me this is not the cheesiest cover you’ve ever seen in your entire life?
What are some of your favorite covers? What kinds of covers do you hate/love?
This prompt was used from “Top Ten Tuesday,” a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.

The cover of Aftercare Instructions is GORGEOUS. I love simple covers that focus on typography and blocks of color rather than using a lot of flashy graphics. I’ll definitely have to check that one out! <3
Ali
Yes, me too! I really like this cover! For sure check it out – I think it’ll be released in August, but it’s available on NetGalley right now!

I see some seriously gorgeous choices here!! Don’t get me started on models on cover… I hate them!! I have just but a few exceptions. And all of those NA covers?¿? I didn’t know that was a theme but… even if the book is good! I would exhale, cringe and get as far away from it as possible just in case it contains some kind of virus… 😂😂😂

If the Winter Prince is hot and rich who cares about the cover!
Ali
Oh mother. Also it’s called the Winter KING. And I love hope he’s a least rich, we’ll see when I read it!
Annie
The Graces cover is <3
Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight
The Winter King really does have the cheesiest cover lol. Is that seriously a recent book? I thought it was something from the 90s! I love the first two covers though!
Ali
It’s not a recent book, lol. ……. wait, after I type that I went and checked Goodreads to see how long ago it was published so I could tell you… and it was 2014! OMG it IS a relatively recent book, LOL. So much awful packed into one RECENT book cover XD
Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight
Haha, I checked before I commented. They must’ve been purposely going for that old-school romance look, I guess?
Molly's Book Nook
YAS. Retribution Rails. I LOVE the cover for that and VR. They’re so gorgeous!

Right?!?! Seriously some of the best covers I’ve seen. And they fit the book SO WELL!
Raisa
You’re right. I also don’t like the books that have photos of people on them.
Ali
It’s weird!! And to me it seems tacky – like they’re grocery store books (….not like those books are inherently bad, but they’re just not the type of reading I’m looking for XD)
Covers I Can't Stand - the bandar blog
[…] (um, my bookstagram is basically devoted to beautiful covers). There are so many that I love (to get an idea, see this post), but then there are some that I just can’t handle. I mean, why ruin a perfectly good book […]
