I’ve been majorly slumping (what else is new?) these past few months. I’m hoping my current reads will help pull me out, since the last couple of books I read certainly did not.
What I Recently Finished Reading:
The Oyster Thief was simply not the book for me, so I DNF’d it early on. I have a review coming up for this one in a month or so, but let me say here that it was too juvenile for a book written for adults.
The City of Brass was definitely a “it’s not you, it’s me” situation. It has a lot of similarities to the book I wrote, and since that book is causing me a lot of grief right now, this wasn’t a good choice for my current mental state! I DNF’d this one pretty quick, too.
What I’m Currently Reading:
I’m using The Host to hopefully get me out of my slump right now (I loved this one when I read it forever ago).
Miracle Creek has been receiving TONS of good reviews, and I’m excited to dive into a thriller. It’s usually not my genre, but between my major fantasy slump and the fact it’s getting good reviews, I’m hoping to enjoy it.
What I’ll Read Next:
The Proposal seems super light-hearted and like a good slump read, so I’m hoping I’ll love it.
After loving The Song of Achilles, I’m excited to dive into Circe (though I’m not expecting to love it as much, based on lots of reviews).
What books are you diving into this month? What did you recently read or plan on reading?
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.

Ah Circe is different. Amazing in a different way. Miracle Creek sounds interesting. I’ve been on a huge bubble gummy chick lit bender and read The Wedding Date. Didn’t like it as much as other ones. Let me know how The Proposal is!
Oyster Thief.. I’m with you Ali.

Hahahah. I’m in a weird genre mood, too, because of my slump. I’m not gravitating toward fantasy as much – or if I am, I’m very very quick to DNF it if I’m not into it!

I hope you can get out of your slump soon. I still need to read The Song of Achilles, but I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy it when I do. I just finished In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winter for my book club and really loved it.
