Happy Valentine’s Day friends! I know some people may hate this “holiday”, but I think it is loads of fun. Especially when you celebrate with friends and sending them dorky Valentine’s day cards (some of my poor friends have already been the recipients of these cards this year). Anyway, it’s a fun day to celebrate all things LOVEY DOVEY and what’s not to love about that? So to celebrate on the blog I’m talking bout my favorite love stories. Be sure to chime in and share yours!
1. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier
This is definitely a slow burn romance, but those are my favorite, so this definitely makes the list!
2. The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness
Matthew (hell yes to a sexy vampire!) is one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends. You should definitely read this series if you haven’t yet!
3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Yes, you’re heart is going to be ripped out of your chest and stomped on, but reading this book is worth it.
4. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
A classic love story. It’s easily one of my favorite books AND one of my favorite love stories (sorry Pride and Prejudice, you’re good, but Jane Eyre has you beat in my world).
5. Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
I am going to be honest, I feel like a humongous dork putting this book on the list (especially after something classy like Jane Eyre)… but I can’t deny how much I loved this book. I actually saw the movie first and was so obsessed with it I had to read the book ASAP. I LOVED this zombie story! LOVED IT! In fact, maybe I should do a re-read and officially review it soon…
6. The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons
DUH this book had to be on the list. I freaking LOVED it and called it one of my favorite love stories of all time! See my rave review here.
7. Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
I would be straight up lying to myself (and all of you) if I didn’t put this one on my list. Yes, I get why people hate this book. But I DON’T. I was obsessed with it back when they were all coming out and even today I’m not allowed to re-read it, because it’s one of the very few books that will results in me not moving from the couch until I have finished it. I loved the other ones, too, but Twilight always will be my favorite.
What are some of your favorite love stories? Or, if you hate them, which do you hate the most!?
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.

YES, it’s so good to hear from someone else who loves Jane Eyre more than P&P. There’s a depth to Jane Eyre that P&P just lacks in my eyes, even though I still really enjoyed it. Happy Valentine’s Day! <3
Ali
Agreed! I really enjoyed both, but Jane Eyre will always take the cake 😀
Krysta
I have just learned of this P&P vs. Jane Eyre thing. I didn’t know we were choosing sides, though I admit I like Vilette more than I like Jane Eyre. So…that might mean I am Team P&P? Do we get T-shirts or something?
Ali
Hahahah – we should get shirts! I don’t think it’s a “thing” necessarily. I just often put them in the same category (“famous classic love story”?), so that’s why it “won” in my mind…. I guess? But we should still make shirts a thing.
Lucia @Reading Is My Breathing
Edward & Bella will forever be my ultimate ship, so I am with you on Twilight being one of my all time favorites love stories 🙂
I am with you on All Souls trilogy being another favorite love story of mine as well.
But love story that touched me the most is the one in Outlander series, I just love Jamie & Claire so much!
Ali
Awww yes! I loved Jamie and Claire, too… except I was never able to get past the first book because I HATED how the second one started. I hated so much that she was back with her husband for even a second. I know that I need to push through because it goes back to Jamie and Claire, but I just couldn’t handle it!
Brittany's Book Rambles
I also have no shame in admitting that I loved Twilight 🙂 And yessss, Jane Eyre! One of my favorite couples as well <3 Amazing list!
Brittany @ Brittany’s Book Rambles
Ali
Thank you! Hahah yes, Twilight nerd for life here!
Resh Susan @ The Book Satchel
Great list, Love Jane Eyre. That is a classic love story.
Ali
It really is! It’s fantastic.
matxi_books
I would have added P&P of course!jeje But I was as surprised as you in regards of Warm Bodies, and I watched the movie countless tiems before finally reading the book last year and…. whoaaa!!! It was just whoaa!! 🙂 😉
Ali
Hahaha, I’m glad I’m not the only one who was obsessed with it! I don’t even know why, it’s not normally something I would have liked! But I LOVED it!
Maraia
Seeing Daughter of the Forest on your list made my day. Juliet Marillier is one of my favorite authors, and she writes the best ships! I love all of them. I’m all for the slow burn. Have you read any of her other books?
Ali
I haven’t, but I know that I need to. What other would you recommend? and YAS to the slow burn! They’re my favorite!
Maraia
Son of the Shadows is tied with Daughter of the Forest for my favorite. Child of the Prophecy is also good but not at the level of the first two. The Blackthorn & Grim series is amazing. The Bridei Chronicles gets off to a rocky start, but books two and three are worth it. Basically all of her adult books are fantastic. 🙂
Ali
Bahahahahah I’m gathering that since you just recommended a million of her books! XD
Maraia
Oops. 🙈
Briana
Can I say I hated Twilight before it was cool to hate it? :p My friend was OBSESSED with it when it was new and kept begging me to read it until I did. I don’t think I could have been more bored. But I guess I am surprise the hate has been so vehement. I didn’t love it, but I don’t know that I thought it was worth mocking for the rest of eternity. 😉
I do like some of your other picks, though!
Ali
Bahahahah I knew you were cool 😉 Yes, I agree – I can see why people don’t like it, but the vehemence is a little out of control XD
Briana
At least I can say I don’t like it because I’ve actually read it! I know you can research a book and decide it’s probably not your thing, but I think it’s a bit crazy to be really actively opposed to a book you haven’t even read, too!
Ali
100% agreed!!! That’s a big pet peeve of mine. I don’t even like telling someone not to read a book even if I hated it! I’m always like “well it wasn’t for me, but you may like it if….”
Michelle @ Pink Polka Dot Books
I so need to read Warm Bodies. I only do zombie books and movies a couple times a year because NIGHTMARES, but that is one I think I could handle! Also, YES to TFIOS. It killed me, but it was worth it.
Ali
Hahaha yes, this one is not very scary at all (but then again, I like horror so maybe it is a little bit???). TFIOS was so brutal!
Kat Impossible
I saw the movie of Warm Bodies before I read the book as well. It’s so sweet 😍 and our poor hearts. TFIOS is beyond sad. I sobbed!
Ali
I’m glad you enjoyed Warm Bodies as well! And yes, TFIOS is so heart breaking – I sobbed, too. Especially during the “fake” funeral. UGH! I don’t even want to think about it.
Kat Impossible
That part was the WORST! I think I just sobbed through the entire last part of the book.
Bec (@booktineus)
I saw DoTF on the list and was immediately overwhelmed by feels. SORCHA AND RED ARE SO PRECIOUS!! I loved how slowly it built but how much they cared for each other and hafjsahfkjds
I literally cannot process any more of this post because SORCHA AND RED
Ali
HAHAHA right?! I loved them!!! That book was so perfect for me!
