Listen, since I’ve started blogging books are a lot less forgettable to me, because I end up writing a review for it (and if the review doesn’t wind up on my blog, it definitely goes on Goodreads). So when I saw that the prompt for today from That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday list, I knew I had to figure out what books I’ve read that I had completely forgotten about.
1. The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling
I think Iliked this… I just don’t remember much about it. At all.
2. California by Edan Lepucki
This one was a pretty big book for a while – I’d see it everywhere in bookstores. I read it, and now I don’t remember what it was about at all.
3. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
Occasionally I see this one on my shelf and go “oh yeah, that book existed.” Otherwise, I never think of it.
4. Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave
Ca
I read this one semi-recently and still can’t remember much about it
5. Jane Steele by Lindsay Faye
Besides having a GORGEOUS cover, I can’t remember a damn thing about this book. And I also read this one semi-recently!
6. The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton
This one had so much potential, but then it was just so blah.
7. Looking for Alaska by John Green
DON’T HATE ME FOR THIS ONE. This was my second John Green novel (after The Fault in Our Stars), and it paled in comparison to me. I don’t think I’ll be picking up another Green novel any time soon.
8. Life After Life by Kate Atkinson
All I remember about this book is that I wanted it to end. Here is my review.
9. Reboot by Amy Tintera
I read this one this year and I remember nothing.
10. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
LOL, I know a lot of you are probably clicking the “unsubscribe” buttons for my blog right now… but honestly, this is probably one of THE MOST forgettable books to me. I enjoyed it, sure, but it wasn’t that remarkable to me for some reason? In fact, if the blogosphere didn’t talk about this book non-stop, I’d long have forgotten about it by now.
Can you remember any of your forgettable books?
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.
Lily Pierce
I recently read A Wrinkle in Time in an afternoon with every intention of doing a classics review…couldn’t remember any of it within a week, lol!

bahahaha it happens!! *shrug emoji*
Amber @ The Literary Phoenix
I do not like Looking for Alaska. Nothing anyone can say will make me like Looking for Alaska. All his other books are better. *protects you with adamantium shield*
Try oooone more John Green. Any one. I like An Abundance of Katherines, but Turtles All the Way Down is written very well. You feel the protagonist’s anxiety and it’s unsettling.

Okay good to know about John Green!! I have heard great things about Turtles!
Krystianna
Noooo I love Looking for Alaska! It’s definitely my favorite John Green novel. I have yet to read The Night Circus, but I do have a copy on my shelf… hopefully I enjoy it.

Hahaha – sorry! I liked it – it just wasn’t memorable to me?! I hope you enjoy the Night Circus whenever you get to it!
Michelle @ Pink Polka Dot Books
I tried to read The Casual Vacancy and it just didn’t take. I didn’t get it at all.
I also read (and LOVED) The Dragon Tattoo series, but can really only remember there being a magazine and rare flowers involved. My book memory is worse now than ever because books blend together. I am forever forgetting endings and what the big twists were. I think I should probably start a spoilers notebook for myself!!

i have a hard time remembering books before i started reviewing them, but now that I review almost everything i am able to remember quite a bit more. but yes – this was one i read before i remember NOTHING!

I’ve read Looking for Alaska and The Casual Vacancy. LFA is my favorite John Green, though I could probably do for a re-read and I liked The Casual Vacancy, but it’s very literary, and those are often books that are hard for me to remember. LOL I really want to watch the mini-series though. Honestly, even with blogging, it’s hard for me to remember details of a lot of books because I just read too much! And I know everyone seems to love The Night Circus but I’ve never felt interested…so never read it, probably never will.

I have a hard time with literary stuff too! Mostly because NOTHING EVER HAPPENS (sorry i’m biased :D)
momknu
Can’t remember any of them!! But…I did think The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a powerful book and between the book and the Swedish movie (not the American one) there was a good conversation about sexual abuse and human trafficking.

yeah i remember it being tough to read at times, but honestly remember very little beyond that!
Suzanne @ The Bookish Libra
I loved The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo when I read it, but I honestly don’t remember much of anything about it now .
Ali
Yes, I remember really liking it, too. But clearly nothing stuck in my mind!

Melissa's Midnight Musings
I’ve only read two of the books on your list. I remember HATING The Casual Vacancy. The only reason I even finished it (and it was a major struggle) is because I like Rowlings writing style.

Yes, I like her writing style, too! And I agree, this book was a struggle!
