Do you ever just watch a movie and think, man, that’d be a great book. Well, I do it all the time and since it’s October, I figure I’d do a Halloween/horror-themed post!
1. Hereditary
There is so much atmosphere in this movie that would be excellent to read in novel form. There is a lot a book couldn’t capture (like the fantastic cinematography), but I think there are also things a novel would give us that the movie couldn’t (like inner dialogue of the effed up characters!)
2. The Witch
Excuse me, can someone please give me a horror novel set in colonial America? THANK YOU.
3. Don’t Breathe
There were many parts of this movie that were really ridiculous, but I loved the premise, and I think that a book would better flush out the weird parts of the movie.
4. The Hills Have Eyes
THIS WOULD BE SO GOOD
5. Event Horizon
I saw this movie when it came out in theaters, and let me say I was WAY too young to be in that theater. When I saw it again as an adult, I still equally terrifying. ***I actually found out (when researching to make sure all of these weren’t books) that this IS a book! Now I want to read it!***
6. The Purge
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of this movie (I’m obsessed with the concept of being in a “safe place” while horrible things happen around you), and think it would make a great novel.
7. The Cell
The level of obsession I had with this movie when I was young has to say something about the sort of weird child I was. I had it on DVD (VHS? I can’t remember), and I watched it SO MANY TIMES. WHY??? It was so offing strange!! But I can’t deny that I would read that movie in novel form if it came out.
8. Any Part of the Black Mirror Series
Gah! So many of these stories would make amazing novels!
What movie (doesn’t have to be horror) do you wish were based on a book?
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.
Mundo Sombrio
I still don’t understand how many people manage to prefer a movie to a good book. Our imagination is better than any vision a director can have. There is no better movie than ours.
Mundo Sombrio just posted Porque Pouco Antes da Morte, Muitas Pessoas tem Sonhos Incomuns?
