Here’s a chance to rapid-fire discuss books. Check out what’s been on my book line-up for the past and upcoming week, and make sure you chime in and let me know what’s on yours!
1. What are you currently reading?
I am just finishing up my audiobook of Jurassic Park (I think I’m officially a Michael Crickton fan. Or maybe I’m just a 12-year-old boy who loves dinosaurs? Either way, I’m obsessed with this book.). I just started The Mask, and it’s super duper long overdue. I got this book for free in exchange for a review MONTHS ago. I have no interest in reading it anymore, so hopefully I don’t hate it.
2. What did you recently finish reading?
The last audiobook I read was The Rook, and I enjoyed it thoroughly! Review is coming up super soon. I JUST finished Rebel of the Sands and was pleasantly surprised by it! Review will be up in a couple of weeks.
3. What do you think you’ll read next?
I won Unicorn Tracks from a giveaway the author (Julia Ember) was doing a while back. It’s (loosely) about a safari with mystical creatures, and that just sounded too good to pass up. It’s a short novel, so I’m hoping to blast through it quickly. The next audiobook I’m going to tackle is Jane Steele, a Jane Eyre re-telling (I loved Jane Eyre). Trying to tick books off my TBR slowly but surely! This one was given to me by my mom-in-law. She usually recommends good books, so I’m hoping to like this one quite a bit!
So tell me what you’re reading (have read, going to read)! Or, have you read any of these books? What did you think?

A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.

When I read Jurassic Park a few summers ago it was all I could think about for a solid month. It’s such an engrossing story!! Also, I’m so glad you enjoyed The Rook 🙂 I feel like that’s such an underrated book.
Ali
I think The Rook needs more hype, too. It’s hilarious! And I am glad I’m not the only 12-year-old boy on the inside – Jurassic Park was awesome, lol. I can’t wait to read more of his novels!

I’ve got Rebel of the Sands ready to read soon, I’ll have to read your review when you post it 🙂 I’ve got a bit of a stack forming, with Girl on a Train, The Diabolic (from Nov’s Illumicrate), Once Upon a Dream (Twisted Tales, which is a series of dark Disney retellings) and The Shadow Queen, to name but a few! I’m currently reading The Sleeping Prince 🙂 x
Ali
Once Upon a Dream sounds like a series I’d love (I’m obsessed with all things Disney)! I Haven’t read any of the other books on your list besides Girl on the Train, which I enjoyed. I hope you like it, too! (:

I haven’t read any of these! Though Rebel’s been on my TBR for a while. I’m planning to start Merchant of Venice soon, that’s my current TBR. (:
Ali
I had Rebel of the Sands on my TBR forever, too! I think I’d owned it since April before I read it, haha. I’m so glad I did, though. It’s much better than I expected it to be!

I had a lot of fun with Rebel of the Sands! I’m glad you enjoyed it too. I once started reading Jurassic Park for English class in high school, but we never finished it and because it was for class I never really got into it. I should try it again in the audiobook maybe one day.
I’ve just started reading Caraval! I’m about 100 pages in and super intrigued by the story and characters.
Ali
You should definitely try it again – or even the audiobook! The narrator was great – it felt like I was listening to a movie. I have heard a million awesome things about Caraval, I’m excited for when it comes out! I hope you love it as much as everyone else!

I love anything to do with Jane Eyre so I’m interested in what you think of this re-telling! I just finished a dark comedy about the underworld, A Tale du Mort by Katrina Monroe, and now I’m working on a short story collection and a literary fiction book
Ali
I am not a good reader of literary fiction – I need to get better about it. We’ll see how I feel about Jane Steele. So far (about 1 hour into the 12-hour audiobook) it’s a little odd, but I think we’re still in the setting-the-stage area so I hope it will settle and get its flow soon.

Ooh I haven’t seen many of the books on this list – only Rebel of The Sands and Jurassic Park. I recently read The Secret Recipe for Second Chances by J.D. Barret, which was a different experience for me, as it was a general fiction adult book – but it had lots of recipes for food so I was pretty happy!
Ali
That sounds so fun!! I am going to have to look into that book. Jurassic Park was so much fun, I’d recommend it to anyone who liked the movie!

Like I said before, now I officially have my eye on Jurassic Park + The Rook sounds good (and I have the eBook!!!) and Jane Steele is gonna be in my next haul!! Ever since I heard about it I’ve been meaning to get my hands on it, it sounds so good!!
Ali
I’m glad you’ve heard good things about Jane Steele! I hope I like it. And yay to The Rook! It’s really enjoyable, esp if you like a little bit of ridiculous humor.

Does even such a thing exist?? Ridiculous humor?? 😂😂😂

Planning on reading Rebel of the Sands very soon. The people I follow on Goodreads rated it all over the place – some DFNs, some 5 stars. I added Unicorn Tracks to my TBR. Looks really interesting!
Ali
I’ll be curious what you think of Rebel of the Sands! And I hope I like Unicorn Tracks – the concept seems super cool!
Lauren Becker
I’ve never read Jane Eyre, but I DO really want to read Jane Steele. I hope you enjoy it! A friend of mine really loved Jurassic Park – the book and the movie too!
