OH BOY It’s been a year. And I’m not talking about the obvious (…COVID). Besides the fact that I grew and spawned a tiny human, I signed a contract for my first novel and have hiked through the mountains of editing (see my author blog for details on the editing process!). Those things have left little time for reading, and I would say this year has been my worst reading year yet (I don’t even want to talk about how many books I DNF’d). That being said, I did read some fantastic books, so let me share my favorite books of 2020 with you.
1. Where the Lost Wander by Amy Harmon
This novel, hands down, was my favorite of 2020. I adore Amy Harmon’s stories, and this one did not disappoint. See my review here.
2. Followers by Megan Angelo
This book was unsettling in a very Black Mirror sort of way. Its very subtle commentary on social media and technology was fantastic. You can read my review here.
3. The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman
Although I never posted a review on the blog, I discussed in on my instagram. I resonated so much with Nina Hill (and many of you bookish, type-A folk will, too!). This story is light-hearted and laugh-out-loud funny.
4. Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Another one that I adored but failed to post a review here on the blog (read my quick review on my Instagram). This one reads like a magazine article, so you fly through it. It has all the things you love about pop culture: bad decisions, gossip, rock and roll, and of course, love.
5. A Rogue of One’s Own by Evie Dunmore
Ugh, I just LOVE this series of books! Historical romance with a whole lot of sass and humor. Another light-hearted read that is perfect if you’re looking for something easy on the brain. There are two more slated to come out. The best news? They completely stand alone, so you don’t have to read one to read the other. See my review on Instagram here!
Bonus: Daughter of the Salt King by ME!
You didn’t think you were getting out of here without me mentioning my novel, did you? I have to admit that while I loved this novel before I went through the whole editing process, I love it now even more. Thanks to my awesome editor, it has become something I’m quite proud of. If you love fantasy with a slow-burn romance subplot, you will absolutely enjoy this one. It comes out February 2, 2020 and is available for pre-order now!
Tell me: what were your favorite books of 2020? If you posted about them, be sure to link to your post in the comment section below!
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.
