We’re over halfway done with 2017, so I figured I’m sharing my favorite books that I’ve read this year so far.
1. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
Review here. I loved this YA historical fiction noval about the tragedy of the Wilhelm Gustloff.
2. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas
Review here. Um, I freaking LOVED this book! It’s the second book in a trilogy, and frankly, it was the best!
3. Matilda by Roald Dahl
Review here. I hadn’t read this book until this year, and I completely loved it.
4. A Conjuring of Light by VE Schwab
Series review here. This series finale was perfect! I would highly recommend this series to anyone who loves the fantasy genre.
5. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
Review here. OMG I LOVED THIS BOOK! If you haven’t read Jurassic Park, YOU MUST.
6. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
Review here. This fantasy novel about an assassin’s school completely took me by surprise. I did not expect to love it as much as I did.
7. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
Review here. One of my favorite character portraits I’ve read. Ove was phenomenal.
8. A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers
Review coming soon! I loved the first novel, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, and this stand-alone sequel was just as awesome.
What were your favorite reads of 2017 so far?
A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.

I haven’t read any of these yet, but a few are on my TBR list. Was Jurassic Park really different from the movie?

Yes and no. I mean, the general plot is pretty similar, but there are a lot of different scenes that are WAY cooler. And honestly, the movie made things seem way more hunky-dory than things actually were. So the book was really darker. And the ending is also a bit different (the book ending is way better, of course!)

Yay for ACOL! It was on my list, too, of course. I also love A Man Called Ove. Unfortunately, I didn’t like A Closed and Common Orbit as much as I did The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. I hope the third book is as amazing as the first!

A Closed and Common Orbit was so good (and I loved the first one probably even more)! Such a fun series. Can’t wait for the third book.

I have a feeling he’s one of those authors that just writes good stories. I bet I’d love every book he’s written.
