Can you believe we’re over halfway through 2018? I sure can’t. I am excited about being in July, though, because that means it’s time for the mid-year book freak out where I discuss the books I’ve read this year so far!
1. BEST BOOKS YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2018?
I did some re-reads of favorite books, but of the new books I read, this was probably my favorite!
2. BEST SEQUEL OF 2018 SO FAR
I didn’t LOVE this one, but I did enjoy it. See my review here.
3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT YOU WANT TO.
This book came out in April, and my good friend Ari recommended it. It is coming up on my to-read list1
4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF 2018?
I have been waiting for this book FOREVER. I can’t wait for it to be released!
5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
Well this one was lame. See my review here.
6. BIGGEST SURPRISE
This one is quite deserving of the hype it’s getting. I loved it! See my review here.
7. FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR AUTHOR TO YOU)
I really, really liked Broder’s writing in this one, and I particularly enjoyed her insight on the various subjects in this story (but hilarious and serious).
8. NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH
OBVIOUSLY Rhett Butler.
9. NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER
Another from Gone With the Wind: Scarlett O’Hara. I ADORED her (even with all of her flaws). She’s selfish, but that girl is a survivor!
10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
Happy tears!
11. A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
Another for Goodnight Mister Tom. This book made me SO HAPPY. I adored it!
12. FAVORITE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR
I’ve only seen two book-to-movie adaptations this year: Ready Player One (WHICH I HATED) and Gone With the Wind (see my discussion here) so obviously I had to choose the latter.
13. FAVORITE REVIEW YOU’VE WRITTEN THIS YEAR?
Uhhhhhh… I hate writing reviews, so I can’t say I have a *favorite.*
14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT OR RECEIVED THIS YEAR?
I’m obsessed with this collection I got this year. It’s the Pan 70 collection by Macmillan.
15. WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?
My TBR isn’t too long (I think I have 6 books on it?). Heart’s Blood has been on it FOREVER, so I really need to read that this year. Secret Passages is a book I got from Netgalley that i need to read sooner rather than later…

A.S. Thornton has evolved from book blogger to author with a particular fondness for writing forbidden love in ancient deserts. When not writing, she’s caring for dogs and cats as a veterinarian. You’ll never find animals at the center of her writing, though, because those fictional worlds don’t have veterinarians and her literal brain can’t accept that the poor critters would be without parasite prevention. Thornton’s debut, DAUGHTER OF THE SALT KING is available wherever books are sold.

Oh whoa, Julia Whelan has a book?? I wonder if she narrates her own audiobook! Also, apparently I need to get on the Gone With the Wind train hahah
Ali
I have no idea about the audiobook! And yes you TOTALLY need to get on the train – unless you want to leave your heart intact :'(

Oh my goodness I haven’t read a single one of these! I love your answers though.

Interesting to see that Gone with the Wind is one of your favorites. I’ll need to add that to my list of classics still to read. 🙂
I am also anticipating record of a spaceborn few. And that pan 70 collection is gorgeous!

I LOVED GWTW – but it also killed me. It’s definitely a good one if that sort of book appeals to you (:
